How to perform a lash lift?

Everything you need to know about Lash Extensions & beyond!

The very best thing is to be well informed!

  1. What are lash extensions? Eyelash extensions are used in the beauty industry to enhance the appearance of ones natural lashes.
  2. Are there different types of lash extensions?  Yes there are many different types of lash extensions used for different purposes.
  3. What are strip lashes? strip lashes are a type of eyelash extension that comes in strips and sit right on top of real lashes in one long strip. These are good for one time use and can be bought in most drug stores.
  4. What are single lashes? Single lashes, most commonly referred to when saying "I am getting lash extensions" are single individual false lashes placed one by one onto each natural lash. This is a tedious process and sometimes may take up to 2 hours. It must be performed by a licensed esthetician or cosmologist in most states. Single lashes come in varieties of  length, size, thickness, and curl. Your technician will go over what suits you best depending on desired look, current health of your lashes, and your face shape.
  5. What are volume lashes? Volume lashes are created using single lashes however you are using more than one per lash. This creates more volume once applied to the natural lash.
  6. Do they damage your lashes? They CAN cause damage to your natural lashes, but they don't have to! When applied properly with a skilled technician, lash extensions are safe to wear all year round keeping  your natural lashes just as healthy as they were before.
  7. Are they safe? Lashes are just as safe as wearing any makeup or cosmetic product. If you are highly allergic to ingredients or have extremely sensitive eyes then lash extensions is probably not the best option for you.
  8. How long will it take? Your lash appointment is specialized time catered just toward you. Each session will take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. So prepare to relax, get real pampered, listen to calm spa music, and take a lash nap!
  9. How is it applied? Lash extensions are applied by placing single individual false lashes onto each natural lash by isolating each lash and gently attaching it to its base with an adhesive.
  10. What types of volume lashes are there? Volume lashes consist of placing more than one single individual lash onto each natural lash in order to create more volume. This can be done by placing 3, 5, 7 or 10 single individual lashes fanned out into a pretty delicate fan onto each single natural lash. This is a high end luxury service and this process may take longer than a regular lash session and also may be called 3D, 5D, 7D, 10D.
  11. How often do I need to come in?  Lash extensions last anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks depending on your natural hair growth cycle. Our lashes fall out just as our hair on our head falls out. So when a new lash grows in, it pushes out the matured lash (with the lash extension attached to it). On average each person has between 90-120 lashes per eye. That means if  you have a 28 day hair growth cycle, two weeks after your full set of lashes is applied, about half of your natural lashes are replaced and it is time for a fill.
  12. What is  a lash fill? A lash fill is what we call the special time that you come in every 2 to 3 weeks to fill in all the spaces where the matured natural lashes fell out in order to maintain a clean full set of healthy lashes.
  13. Is it painful?  Not at all, quite the opposite. Getting your lashes done is a very comfortable relaxing experience. Your eyes remain closed the entire time and your technician will take heed to be super gentle. You will want to come back just for your nap. :)
  14. Can you wear mascara with lash extensions? It is not recommended to wear mascara with your extensions as it will decrease the life span of your lash causing it to weigh more and possibly fall out prematurely. Makeup can also increase the chance of bacteria to build up and risk of infection. Oil free makeup remover is recommend because oil breaks down the adhesive decreasing your lash life span as well.
  15. How to clean your lashes?  Cleanse your lashes each day with a gentle cleanser and clean makeup brush. This is done by lathering the cleanser onto the brush and rubbing in between all the lashes at the base line to remove access build up and keep your lashes healthy. This is also called a lash bath and some technicians perform it for an extra charge before each fill.
  16. What makes lashes fall out prematurely? they aren't attached properly at the base, they are too long or too heavy for your natural lashes to support,  you got them wet right away, the adhesive is old, YOU PULLED THEM OUT!
  17. Should I get lash extensions or a lash lift? If you like a longer fuller  set of lashes and  have the time and money to invest then lash extensions is the right choice for you! If you already have naturally long lashes but just want that beautiful natural upward curl with only a 6 week maintenance in between, then a lash lift is best for you.
  18. What is a lash lift?  A natural perm for your lashes creating a beautiful upward curl lasting up to 6 weeks.  The perm is created the same way you would curl your hair on your head with a perming solution.  See the video above.
