Various names for an eyebrow tattoo!
Is permanent makeup actually a tattoo?
Yes, permanent makeup (PMU) is technically a tattoo. Any process that involves implanting pigment into the skin falls under tattooing. However, unlike traditional body art tattoos, PMU uses a lighter, more superficial technique. The pigment is applied in layers, allowing for a softer, more natural appearance that gradually fades over time as the skin naturally exfoliates. The intensity of the color can be customized by layering the pigment to achieve the desired effect.
Eyebrow tattooing terms are often used interchangeably in marketing, but there are only two methods for implanting pigment into the skin: by hand or by machine. The hand method, such as SoftTap, taps pigment into the skin, a technique dating back to ancient tattooing. Microblading is a hand method that creates small, precise cuts to deposit ink. We no longer offer microblading due to its increased trauma to the skin using a "micro-balde". Nano blade is the new version of microblading and is performed by machine.
Nano Brows
Nano brows, a newer method, uses a nano needle to create very fine lines, offering a more natural, long-lasting result with less skin trauma and a lower risk of scarring than microblading. This technique works well for all skin types and is becoming increasingly popular due to its precision and soft, refined appearance. Two sessions are recommended 4-6 weeks apart lasting up to 2 years, with one session lasting shorter. Shading may be added for extra depth and dimension.
Combo Brows
Combination brows combine nano with powder brows. The nano hair strokes are placed in the front portion of the brow and powder towards the center and the tail, adding depth and dimension. Suitable for dry and youthful skin. Two sessions are recommended 4-6 weeks apart lasting 12-18 months with 1 session lasting shorter.
Powder/Ombre
Powder brows deposit small pixels of ink creating a soft powdery effect. It can be super soft for a natural look or bolder for a makeup look. Powder brows are good for all skin types and is effective in covering old faded brows. Pigment is deposited very securely and is the most sought after type of brow. Two sessions are recommended, 4-6 weeks apart lasting 2-3 years, with 1 session lasting shorter.
Eyebrow Tattoo Removal
Saline removal is a safe method to remove unwanted or overly saturated ink on the face and eyebrows. Saline removal may be needed prior to working over previous work that is too dark and saturated to cover. Learn more about saline removal.

Brow Wow | Overcoming The Eyebrow Shock!
Why do new eyebrows start off so dark?
Eyebrow shock refers to the initial surprise or shock one may feel when seeing the immediate results of their newly applied brows, particularly if the color appears darker or more intense than expected. Remember, the initial color is darker and not the same as the final results for several reasons:
- The color applied sits on the surface of the skin. Once it settles below the skin's surface, it is viewed through the skin appearing lighter.
- Up to 30% of color sheds off during the first 4 weeks due to the natural skin cell turnover cycle. Less shedding occurs when keeping it moist and avoiding exfoliants.
- The body may reject ink based on immunity or heavy sweating and try to push the ink out of the skin.
Layering the color during the application contributes to the level of darkness. Going too light will result in zero retention. The color must appear dark in order to achieve desired results!

Steps to Prepare for Your New Brows!
Discontinue barrier forming ingredients and exfoliating treatments/products starting 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after your appointment. Failure to do so will prevent color absorption and cause premature color loss. You will not be refunded.
- Discontinue Retinol/Retinoids, Tretinoin, Isotretinoin, or vitamin A derivatives including skincare and supplements! Off Accutane for at least 6 months!
- Acids such as AHA, BHA, Glycolic, Lactic, Mandelic, Malic, Citric, Tartaric, Salicylic, and Hyaluronic Acids. Check makeup and cleansers!
- Steroid and Brightening Creams such Cortisone, Aquitaine, Niacin, and Vitamin C.
- Exfoliating treatments, Microdermabrasion, Lasers, Chemical Peels, Photo Facials, Acne Skincare, Skin Resurfacing Treatments.
- Long lasting makeup and oil/silicone based makeup remover. Use makeup that washes off easily with water.
- Botox should be done 3 weeks prior. Wax, Tweezing, Tinting at least 3 days prior.
- 24 hours before: avoid blood thinners, alcohol, and caffeine.

Day of the Appointment: Appointments are scheduled for 1.5 hours.
- Shower before, arrive with clean makeup and moisturizer free skin!
- Many makeup removers including Neutrogena oil free makeup remover and hydrating micellar water contain barrier forming ingredients. Check your ingredients or select from our approved list!
- Complete consent form and discuss brow goals.
- Design shape based on your natural brow bone structure.
- Color is applied in layers. More layers deepen the color; fewer layers keep it lighter.
- High grade topical anesthetic is used for your comfort.
- Sneezing may occur as the sinus area is near the brows.
- Review and approve the shape before completion.
- Go home with brow shock and wait out the process to achieve beautiful soft natural looking brows.
Aftercare:
- First 24 hours: Avoid shower, steam, sauna, sun, and sweating in order for pigment to settle. Dab excess lymph with tissue to prevent scabbing.
- Keep clean by washing gently daily with "safe for pmu" cleanser to prevent infection.
- Apply ointment provided to you 2-3 times daily only after the skin is clean and dry.
- Wait ten min after shower to apply to ensure the skin is dry.
- Rub in well, should feel flat and smooth at all times. Do not overapply.
- Light peeling may occur, keep moisturized to reduce peeling.
- If itching apply ointment more frequently to prevent dryness and scabbing. Heavy scabbing must be avoided by keeping the area moist. Over suffocating the brows can also cause scabbing. Moisture balance is key!
- No exfoliating products or treatments for 4 weeks to maintain color retention.
- Do not apply makeup near the brows for 7 days!

What is a permanent makeup eyebrow tattoo?
Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattoo designed to enhance your natural features. When done well, it blends seamlessly, giving your eyebrows a fuller, softer look.
Is it okay to get the brows wet?
Yes, you must keep your brows moisturized at all times following your permanent makeup procedure to prevent scabbing or peeling. We recommend using our aftercare cream or Aquaphor 3 to 5 times daily to maintain moisture balance and promote good color retention. Be sure to rub the cream in well, on and around the brow skin, and under existing brow hair sealing the color in. Brows should feel flat and smooth at all times when you touch them with your finger. No lifting should occur.
Can I go back to work immediately after getting permanent makeup?
Yes. Permanent Makeup does not impair you in any way.
Will it get swollen?
Usually not. You can expect your eyebrows to appear beautiful right after the treatment. In some cases, there may be mild swelling with eyeliner and lips, which typically subsides within a day or two.
All the photos featured on our website are taken immediately after treatment, so you can see the immediate results. Please note that the initial color appears darker, and gradually lightens during the healing process.
Will my eyebrows scab?
No, as long as you follow the aftercare instructions correctly, your brows should remain clean, flat, and smooth at all times with no scabbing or lifting.
What happens if my eyebrows develop scabs after permanent makeup?
If you experience scabbing, we recommend applying a hot compress with a wet paper towel to soften the skin. This can help retain as much color as possible without removing it. However, if the scab has already dried out and fallen off, there is nothing you can do other than wait for the touch-up session. Removing the scab prematurely could result in color loss or uneven healing.
Can I wear my regular makeup?
We advise against using any topical products aside from the instructed aftercare during the first ten days after the permanent makeup procedure to prevent infection. Picking scabs should be avoided, as it can elevate the risk of infection and disrupt the healing process. It's crucial to ensure that the treated area remains clean, flat, and smooth reducing scabbing for good results.
What should I avoid after getting permanent makeup?
No shower for 24 hours. Avoid retinols, harsh chemical facials, exfoliating treatments, prolonged sun exposure, and excessive sweating to prevent adverse effects on the pigment.
