A lip tattoo requires two applications spaced 4 weeks apart and lasts up to three years. 

A lip tattoo does not replace regular lipstick for an evening out or special event rather gives a natural subtle hint of color for every day. You may wear regular lipstick over it once healed. Lip color will fade away naturally, leaving no permanent color change. 

Dark-toned lips require extra applications to lighten up the darker tones before applying the desired color. This is known as dark lip neutralization. The dark lip neutralization technique uses orange and peachy tones to counterbalance the dark hues. Lip tattooing can trigger cold sores for those with the underlying virus. Over-the-counter creams are available if needed. For added peace of mind, discuss taking an antiviral with your doctor ensuring your lip tattoo experience is smooth and worry-free.

It is your responsibility to read the pre/post care on our website and follow ALL the instructions! Must discontinue retinols, acids, hyaluronic acid, anti aging products or color will not penetrate into the skin! 

 Must discontinue a minimum of 2 week (4 weeks preferred) before and after appointment. Failure to do so will prevent color absorption into the skin, and you will not be refunded. 

• Retinol/Retinoids, Tretinoin, Isotretinoin, or vitamin A derivatives. Skincare and supplements! Off Accutane for at least 6 months!
• Acids such as AHA, BHA, Glycolic, Lactic, Mandelic, Malic, Citric, Tartaric, Salicylic, and Hyaluronic Acids. Check makeup and cleansers!
• Steroid and Brightening Creams such Cortisone, Aquitaine, Niacin, and Vitamin C.
• Exfoliating treatments, Microdermabrasion, Lasers, Chemical Peels, Photo Facials, Acne Skincare, Skin Resurfacing Treatments. 
• Oil based (mineral oil) Products, Creams, Moisturizers, and Makeup Removers.
• Long lasting makeup. Use makeup that washes off easily with water.
• Long-lasting lipstick and plumpers.
• Botox, Lip Flip, Lip Enhancement procedures should be done 3 weeks prior. 
• Wax, Tweeze, and laser hair removal at least 3 days prior. 
• Exfoliate dead skin off lips. Dry and chapped lips will not hold onto color. 
• 24 hours before, Avoid Blood Thinners, Alcohol, Fish Oil (blood thinner), Hair skin and nail Supplements, Caffeine.

For best results we recommend Cetaphil Daily Cleanser (for normal skin) and Cetaphil Oil Free Daily Facial Moisturizer, without anti aging properties, around the treatment area 4 weeks prior and 4 weeks after to keep your skin clean and moisturized. Other recommendations on Precare-Postcare page. Lips must be well hydrated. Use Aquaphor on your lips 3x daily after exfoliating dead skin off starting as soon as you read this. 

Day of the appointment: Appointments are scheduled for 2 hours.

• Shower before, arrive with clean makeup free and well hydrated lips! 
• No moisturizers near treatment area, can create a barrier. 
• Wear lose comfortable clothes.
• Upon arrival complete consent form and provide identification over 18.
• Color is applied until desired saturation is achieved.
• Topical numbing, safe for lips is applied.
• Talking is discouraged to reduce movement.
• A very bright color is expected for the first few days.
• Rushing through the procedure makes the lips more swollen
• Be prepared for a two hour appointment.

Aftercare:

• No shower, steam, sauna, sun, or sweating for first 24 hours. Pores need to close.
• Lots of peeling is to be expected. Moisturize a lot! Aquaphor is recommended.
• Keep clean to prevent infection. No makeup for 5 days. Brush teeth as usual.
• Use a straw for hot drinks for the first 3 days.
• No Botox or fillers for 4 weeks.
• Change your mask frequently to prevent infection if applicable.
• May apply ice if needed in clean plastic bag

Healing:

• Swelling for 3-5 days is normal 
• Bright color for the first several days
• All photos seen on the website were taken immediately after treatment unless stated otherwise
• Lots of peeling and very dry skin. Moisten as much as possible!
• May trigger cold sores if you have a history of breakouts!
• Color appears very dark, then disappears, then touch-up is required!

Darker lips require extra applications. Light colors will not show up well on darker lips. Dark-toned lips are lightened using a contrasting color like peach or orange explained on our color theory page. 

To neutralize darker hues, multiple applications are applied. The first color application counters the darker colors with the opposite color on the color wheel like orange or salmon. The second application lightens it more. The last application creates the desired effect once the natural lip color is light enough to cover successfully. Dark tones may show through until pigment is fully settled making the lips appear darker before appearing lighter.
